Pineapple Dance Studios
Pineapple Dance Studios are the world renowned dance studios in Covent Garden, famous for their dance wear, dance classes and most recently, the reality TV show 'Pineapple Dance Studios'. Pineapple works closely with dotDigital and dotCommerce to power their online shop and website, which sells their clothing lines, and the online version of their dance class timetables.
Increasing mobile visitors
Over the last quarter of 2010, the number of mobile visitors rose steeply. However the bounce rate for mobile visitors was over 10% higher than for browser visitors. dotDigital looked into this mobile traffic and found that mobile users specifically wanted to find timetable information and directions but the flash hero banner which also had moving 'beat' bars to music was resulting in a blank screen for many mobile users.
Small changes, big difference
Together, it was decided that the hero banner and homepage onpage navigation should be re-developed in javascript rather than flash so it rendered on mobile devices. All information is now readily available for mobile visitors and the small change has made a big difference.
Immediate effect
Comparing the two weeks after the changes went live with the two weeks prior, Pineapple saw a massive 50% decrease in bounce rates for mobile visitors, and a large uptake in mobile purchasers, which saw the work pay for itself.
