Figures released by Experian Hitwise show that Boxing Day 2011 was the UK’s biggest ever online shopping day.

High sales were expected with many retailers already prepared with campaigns to drive shoppers to their sites, and those who were prepared have certainly reaped the benefits.

13 million hours were spent online on December 26th 2011 with 96 million visits, a 19.5% rise in comparison to visits in 2010.

It wasn’t just online who saw sales soar. The high street saw a 21.5% rise in footfall, according to Experian, and many retailers experiencing a bumper Boxing Day Sales.

With records being broken online, and an increased footfall on the high street, Boxing Day 2011 only continues to showcase the benefits that a strong multi-channel strategy can bring to retailers.
